Leary (Harvard, M.D. 1895) taught pathology, bacteriology, and medical jurisprudence at Tufts College Medical School until 1929. His research was chiefly concerned with cholesterol and its role in the production of human disease, particularly atherosclerosis, and also the relation of cholesterol to human neoplasms, especially those of the kidney and prostate. Harvey Williams Cushing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 8, 1869. He graduated from Yale College in 1891 and in 1895 received his M.D. and A.M. degrees from the Harvard Medical School. He served on the staff of the Johns Hopkins University Hospital from 1901 to 1912, where he devoted himself to neurological surgery.
